Florida State University's RSO Dare To Love: Project Haiti is interviewed
 for Aaron Lindhorst's documentary.

What is “Dare To Love: Project Haiti”?

“Dare to Love: Project Haiti” is a movement by college students at Florida State University who stand to eradicate poverty by implementing innovative and sustainable solutions in rural Haiti.

Summer break 2010, we aim to travel northwest again, to rural Haiti, and improve the water quality in a village called Petite Paradise (Creole: Ti Paradi). There is also a need  to provide a neighboring village, (Ti-River), with a drinking water source and  a technical school for local teenagers and college-aged students. Other projects we anticipate being involved with:

                   * Construction of a school building

                   * Introduction of an in-ground
cistern and the assembly of a
windmill for the transportation of water to different areas of
                         Ti-River.

                   *  Installation of a solar powered light, affording students a place
where they can read and study after dark.

We anticipate traveling to the same area during the spring of 2010 to offer
continued assistance with
sustainable development to the local populations in
this poverty stricken area.

Why Haiti?

Statistics (UNICEF and World Bank):

                   *   86% of Rural Haiti does not have adequate sanitation facilities

                   *   Only one in five children have the opportunity to attend primary
                                  school.

                   *   Half the rural population has no "improved" drinking water source

                   *   More than half of the population (53.9%) survives on less than
                                $1.00  US a day.

                   *   In 2000, 4% of Haiti was forest area; in 2004, 3.8% was forest area.
The percent of forest land continues to decline.

                   *   Only 0.4% of the land is nationally protected

                   *   78% of the Haitian people are living in poverty --according to
Haiti standards (which are much lower than US standards)

What About Funding?

We continually search for grants that may be applicable and we are also diligently fundraising. For the summer 2010 trip, we need to raise $10,000 - $15,000 for our team to travel to northwest Haiti. If you would like to contribute to the success of our endeavors you may click the Donate link. Any and all size donations are welcomed. Your contributions are needed and greatly appreciated.
